For me it is Starbucks mugs.Particularly the 50 state mugs.
It started out a few years back when I had left over money on my college food account I had to spend or it would go to waste and I bought the Ohio state mug from Starbucks. Well then I liked it so much I bought the Florida one, and then the DC one, and then the Kentucky one, next thing you know I had New York. The list goes on. Anyway I am determined to buy all 50 mugs from every state. Even if they do cost $12.95 a pop!

I have a pretty large collection of shot glasses. Then I started getting art from the various locations. nothing fancy, like from mexico I got a ceramic tile with a house&garden painted on it.

I collect iron oxide and tetanus mines - I mean project cars. Okay, I have collected other things, even recently, but haven’t gone full Gotta Catch ‘Em All in a while on anything except books.
I’m trying to build a Penguin paperback P. G. Wodehouse arsenal, a Harper Collins Dorothy Sayers collection, and a Timothy Zahn “Cobra” series Baen paperback set, along with some others.
Most recently non-books was McDonald’s Happy Meal Minions.

I collect spare parts. Bike parts, and car parts that either weren’t used, or were replaced before they were actually bad (so they might still be good).

Nothing. I never understood the whole “I collect [insert what ever]” mentality.like seriously, whats the point of just collecting shit if it’s nothing something useful to you? I just don’t get it, but I’m also a bit of a extreme minimalist. until I moved in with the misses The only piece of furniture I owned was my bed and even that was purely out of necessity. But I’m a weird guy..

I collect bells. It started with my great grandma; she would get me these little bells (the size of thimbles) and I thought they were great. I had a collection of hundreds at one point, ranging from cheap ceramic to some very expensive crystal. My ex-wife broke all of them. All save my great grandma’s doorbell.
That doorbell is the centerpiece of my new collection. I only have a dozen or so at this point, but it’s growing again.

She was a psychopath. Turned out she was supposed to be on meds but wasn’t pretty much our entire relationship. Funny how she hid it well until we were married.
The only reason my great grandma’s bell survived is it’s cast iron. Not so easy to demolish :)

You would think so but as I may not collect stuff, I sure do have a lot of hobby, job, specific use items, ect... How ever as I either move up skill or invest in new things to replace other things to do stuff better I do unload the unneeded items. Also if I don’t use something in about 6 months it finds a new home. I have about 3 distant zones of my house, each one for a specific use and these area’s can definitely get a bit cluttered, esp if I’m working full on on either an upgrade or a reset.

I don’t really go out of my way to collect anything (though I’m one hell of a pack rat), but I do love anything that could be called a miniature version of something else.
Hence why I play a ukulele, drive a small truck and refuse to give up all the toy cars I had as a kid :)

The big joke in our family was who would inherit my grandmother’s collection of stone grapes. Why people would create clusters of grapes from semi-precious stone is beyond my comprehension.
I realized that my great-grandmother, my grandmother, and my mother were all “collecting” stuff that I would never want to have in my house. After my grandparents died, I watched my mom struggle with distributing the “collections” to a bunch of relatives, all who weren’t interested in inheriting said collections. She ended up selling off the items and had to deal with distributing the proceeds through the trust, lest any of her siblings object.
Given her recent illness, I begged her to get rid of her collections before I had to deal with it. I suppose threatened is a better term. My solution is a big roll-off dumpster.
With that in mind, I no longer collect anything. Sure, I have some mementos hanging around that will probably end up in a dumpster some day. But I refuse to saddle my kids with collections of junk they feel like they have to hang on to because it was a part of me and my life.

I have Coke cans from 25 different countries, no real reason other than I love how different each one is.
I have Adidas Sambas in 7 different colors, but I wear them often so it’s not really collecting, just amassing.
My wife thinks I collect bike parts, but again i think of it as amassing. When you have a curtain rod of various tires and shelving full of old parts (in various states of wear from worn-out to NOS) and then a work bench of tools I guess it would appear that way. However, I have been able to keep my fleet of bikes and a few of the neighbors bikes on the road for very cheaply for the past umpteen years.

YASSSS HAHAHAHAH. I personally collect Hot Wheels for myself, but my parents LOVE Starbucks mugs and since we’re a family that doesn’t travel much, only me, the out of state for college son can get them. It started with my getting all the ones at my layovers and now my International students friends help me too. (Since their layovers are in like Germany, Japan, Chicago etc.) I think I brought 12 mugs home from Winter Break from my friends giving them to me when they came back for summer.
Also there’s more than 50 mugs. HAHAHA. For example, California has San Francisco, Los Angeles, California, Orange County and maybe one or two more while Oklahoma just got its first mug (Oklahoma) this year. Arkansas doesn’t have a mug yet if I remember correctly and Colorado has 3 (Aspen, Vail, Denver, maybe Colorado.)

Beer glasses (even though I don’t do much drinking. I just think they’re perfect glasses). Hot wheels. But nothing too special, just the ones I find interesting. Or almost anything vintage mustang related that’s a hot wheels or die cast. Anything Texas. I’ve got a plasma cut piece of sheet steel in the shape of Texas set around the peephole of my front door. Heh.
ETA: also, pink. I can fill up an extra large load on laundry made up of nothing but items in varying shades of hot pink, raspberry, magenta, etc. heh.

Haha random, my wife collects those too. Everytime we travel she has to get one. So everytime I go somewhere without her, I will find the tackiest non-starbucks mug i can and bring it back for her “ooops I forgot you only like the starbucks ones”

Swarovski crystals...they’re at my family’s house because it started in elementary school and they took up residence in my mom’s china cabinet.
Started when we were on vacation in Cali and my mom realized that I didn’t ask for anything, food, souvenirs, whatever the entire week. I just went along and enjoyed the trip. So she took me out for a walk to see if I would find anything interesting when this bright and sparkly store caught my eye (it was night time so extra sparkly). The gentleman, very enthusiastic to see a kid in his store...which was odd, greeted us and just let me look around. I saw a little seal figure and loved it because just that morning we spent time at a cove where there were seals everywhere. So my mom got it for me. Since then, I think I’ve accumulated just over a dozen small ones for special occasions and such.

License plates. I started at a very young age when my *ahem* frugal uncle would send them to me from the junkyard he worked in... in California. I was in NH. So I actually got a pretty good selection going, got all 50 states by the time I was maybe 13 (?) and now I just look for interesting ones. I really, really try not to buy them, and I only know of a couple that were actually stolen off cars by friends of mine.
My favorite might be a Tasmania that my sister found on the side of the road, in Tasmania of course. That’s a good one. Another is a NH State Rep plate that a friend gave me (he was the actual rep). I probably have about 250 in total.

I guess I should have explained haha. I do a lot of tinkering especially with electronics. I like to have the “perfect” switch for every project. Sometimes it just to keep a part of something that has sentimental value. For instance the switch in the M3 that turns on my radar detector is from my grandfather’s table saw.

There was a battle within our family over the antiques in the family home when my great-great-great grandparents (not sure how many greats apply, but it’s at least two or three) died. One of my great uncles (again, not sure how many greats apply) took it upon himself to put an end to the squabbling between his siblings. His solution was to build a bonfire.

Football cards. I realize that the card collecting trend died with the invention of the internet, but I’ll still buy a pack every once in a while, wipe the dust off that it collected after two years of sitting in the department store, and laugh at the rookies that are now busts.
I did a lot of work to organize them better than any actual OCD person ever would, and I had somewhere around 4000 at last count. On the bright side, I can usually name the most obscure players when it comes to trivia night.

My friends and I all travel a lot, and we cross-buy mugs and trade. During my honeymoon, I took home over 30 mugs over the span of 4 weeks.
The thing to remember is that all the mugs are limited run; and series do change when they run out.
